Art Literacy (nicknamed Art Lit) is a district-run, volunteer-supported art education program at nearly every BSD elementary and middle schools. Volunteers teach six art lessons a year at elementary or three lessons a year at middle school, with an emphasis on inclusivity and representation of the diverse world around us.

Students learn about both artists and art styles, and then create their own art projects based on the lessons.

This year students will learn about Color and Value through the following artist and art styles:

  • Paul Klee
  • Korean Art
  • Lois Mailou Jones
  • Dale Chihuly
  • Claude Monet
